Roxas City exec backs Treñas
Apart from the different resolutions issued by various organizations, the city government of Roxas through its local chief executive had attested to the peace and order of Iloilo City. Roxas City is the first city to sympathize with Iloilo City after its peace and order situation was placed in question following the cancellation of the Genuine Opposition (GO) grand rally in Iloilo City last February 28.
In a letter sent by Mayor Antonio Del Rosario to Mayor Jerry Treñas, it states "May I state for the record that I, for one consider your City as one of the safest in the country and ergo, do not believe the baseless accusations against you."
Del Rosario also said "it has come to my knowledge that the planned rally in Iloilo City of the Genuine Opposition was aborted due to allege bomb threats, which some sectors blame you and giving a false impression that Iloilo City is a dangerous place." "Not only is your place peaceful, it is also very progressive."
Earlier, the city's Association of Barangay Captains, Iloilo Business Club, Panay Federation of Sugarcane Farmers Inc, Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Incorporated, Micro Insurance Associates Agency Philippines Incorporated, Iloilo Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Iloilo City Convention and Visitors Bureau issued separate statements defending the city's peace and order situation.
Treñas recently called on Provincial Administrator Manuel Mejorada and Governor Niel Tupas Sr. to issue a public apology for issuing statements that the GO rally was canceled due to a security threat.
Treñas said the pronouncements put the city's peace and order situation under question which could affect the local economy.
