Negros Occidental signs MOA on coastal fisheries
Bacolod City -- Neg.Occ. Gov. Joseph G. Marañon signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in support of the Coastal Fisheries Resources Management (CFRM), a component of the German Technical Cooperation's (GTZ) Environment and Rural Development (EnRD) Program, recently.
The program is designed to improve the capacities of local government units and involved government agencies to achieve sustainable development through proper management, utilization and allocation of coastal resources at the same time improve the life of empowered communities.
It is implemented in Region 6 particularly in Negros Occidental and in Region 8 in Southern Leyte.
Other signatories were Bago City Mayor Janet Torres, chairperson of the Central Negros Council for Coastal Resources Development; Escalante City Mayor Santiago Barcelona, Jr., chairperson of the Northern Negros Acquatic Resources Management Advisory Council and Sipalay City Mayor Oscar Montilla, Jr., chairperson of the Southern Negros Coastal Dev. Management Council together with BFAR Regional Director Drusila Esther Bayate and GTZ-EnRD Senior Program Advisier Peter Keller.
Gov. Marañon said that this is a significant day because all of their efforts are recognized and also called for the pursuit and completion of whatever is contained in the MOA.
The program is to be implemented by the local government units in coastal cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental to be supported by the provincial government through PEMO, OPA, BFAR and GTZ and other strategic partners namely; the DENR, PENRO, German Development Service, the academe and the NGOs.
