Police visibility
The successful recovery of the motorcyle of The News Today which was stolen last March 14 was a result of a quick response of our policemen. It simply shows that police visibility really helps in curbing crimes happening around us. Surely, police presence discourage lawless elements from pursuing their plans. Police can also act immediately when somebody calls for help if they are posted in just every corner.
Had there been no policeman in the vicinity where it was stolen, the motorcycle could not have been recovered anymore. Thanks to the quick response of PO3 Gizmo De Asis who, using his private vehicle, tried to chase the speeding carnapper upon hearing our newsboy Joseph Lanzar shouting that the motorcycle he's driving has been stolen. While chasing the suspect, De Asis called up Senior Insp. Conrado Carganillo, director of Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), who immediately flashed alarm to all police units in the city proper the ongoing carnapping.
It was the team of Insp. Dande Deocampo, commander of Task Force Waterfront, who was able to intercept the suspect at Burgos St., city proper. Incidentally, aside from recovering the stolen motorcycle and arresting Anthony Dela Cruz, who was positively identified by Lanzar as the one who took the motorcycle, police also arrested Rodrigo Gabrillos whom Dela Cruz pointed as the one looking for buyers of stolen motorcycles. The two are now charged for violation of RA 6539 or the Anti-Carnapping Act of 1972.
We hope to see more of quick responses by our policemen to crimes happening in our community. And this can only happen if there are policemen in just every corner ready to respond to any call for help.
