'Bigasan sa Parokya' sets up 13 outlets in Negros Occidental
Bacolod City -- The "Bigasan sa Parokya" (BSP) in Negros Occ. now has 13 outlets in the three diocese of the province.
The project, which started last year, is a joint endeavor of the Office of the President for Religious Affairs and the National Food Authority with a goal to reach out to the poor members of the parish by making affordable rice available to them.
The 13 outlets in the province are located at Escalante, Toboso, Kabankalan, La Castellana, Moises Padilla and Banago, Bacolod City.
A total of 1,652 bags have been sold last year in BSP outlets while 620 bags have been purchased from NFA as of March 14 this year.
President Gloria M. Arroyo has committed to providing affordable and nutritious food for Filipino every family by streaming down the fruits of the economy.
The Department of Agriculture continues conduct several projects designed to increase rice yield of farmers.
In coordination with the International Rice Research Institute, better rice variety is being developed to address common complaints of farmers like higher resistance to pests and drought.
