DOT sets tourism jobs fair in Negros
The Department of Tourism is set to stage a two-day Tourism Jobs Fair (TJF) on March 28-29 at the Cebu International Convention Center.
The endeavor is in support to President Gloria Macapagal--Arroyo's 10-point agenda that is to create six to ten million jobs by 2010. Also, the 2nd Tourism Jobs Fair is in response to the demands of the labor sector as well as those of the corporate and the education sectors to provide a venue where graduates can seek employment.
Tourism Secretary Ace Durano said that the TJF is staged to accommodate both graduates of tourism-related courses and the whole graduate population of March 2007, from any related field, those employed but want a career change, or those who are unemployed or underemployed.
Aside from directly providing the venue for employment, TJF also aims to create awareness on the effect of tourism on the local and international employment and provide a database for the tourism's labor force and employment opportunities.
TJF hopes to bring in some 200 employers/exhibitors while it aims to bring around 5,000 applicants from all over the country.
Meanwhile, the National Economic Development Authority revealed a significant growth in employment rate from January last year to January this year.
