Negros Occidental sets Gawad Saka 2007 competition
Bacolod City -- Two animal raisers in Negros Occidental are vying for the Gawad Saka for 2007 regional competition.
The Gawad Saka is a search for outstanding agricultural achievers organized by the Department of Agriculture.
Noel Horacio Abelarde of Purok Elena, Dulao, Bago City, is the contender for small animals category. Abelarde is adopting the Provincial Veterinary Office technology on Tubular Polyethylene Digester for his piggery and using the by-products in his organic vegetable project which is integrated in his animal raising project that include sheeps, goats, kabir chickens, geese and turkeys.
The contender for large animals category, is Trinidad Espinido of Brgy. Concepcion, Talisay City. Espinido is using carabao and cattle waste in her farming practice. Espinido is also an outstanding para-vet awardee for 2007.
Regional evaluators of the Gawad Saka 2007 visited the farms of the two provincial winners recently.
