No takers for demolition works on old City Hall
It seems no contractor is interested to demolish the old Iloilo City Hall building.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday confirmed that nobody posted their bids for the demolition of the old City Hall building having a bid price of P900,000.
The City Hall building would be demolished to give way to a new one.
The city government is set to construct a new seven-story City Hall worth P350 million.
Treñas said the city's Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) will again schedule another bidding for the demolition works where they will increase the bidding price.
Sources said the bidding price for the demolition works is too small, reason why it did not attract any contractor.
The demolition of the old city hall is the first stage towards the construction of the new building.
With regard to the construction of the new City Hall, the BAC will receive eligibility forms and letters of intent from interested bidders starting October 9-13, 2007. The bidding documents will be issued on October 23 until the 27th. The pre-bid conference is scheduled on November 3. The opening of the bids will be on November 3, 2006. Contractors from places outside of Iloilo can join the bidding as the notice of bidding would be published in national newspapers.
Treñas said once the demolition is set, the offices occupying the old building will transfer to Robinsons Place. Treñas said, the city will ask the management of Robinsons Place to open their mall at 9:00 a.m. instead of its regular 10:00 am schedule in order for the city government employees to report to their work. The working hours for the city hall employees will start at 9:00 am until 6:00 pm.
He also said the city has awarded the contract for structural and architectural design to Architect William Coscolluela.
Coscolluela won the bidding participated by four other bidders.
Prior to the bidding, Coscolluela's group had been meeting with the chief executive and other officials of the city for the construction of the new city hall building. They even presented their design. Treñas said the city paid nothing on the first set of design that Coscolluela had presented. The design plans made earlier by Coscolluela's firm was changed as it was too modern and does not coincide with the old structures located near the city hall.
The new city hall building will be constructed at Plaza Libertad. It will sit on the 12,000 square meters of lot presently occupied by the old city hall building. The building will be a combination of new and modern designs to fit the area where old buildings and the San Jose Parish Church are located. The city wants to maintain the uniqueness of the area.
