‘Buena mano’ disqualification raps up vs Batad mayoralty bet
Barely had the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) of comebacking Batad Mayor Salvacion “Inday Vacion” Cuenca-Militar warmed up in the Provincial Comelec, a formal request for a certified true copy of such has been sought. The reason? A disqualification case is underway with the petitioner her sole opponent, mayorable Elvira “Little” Panes-Alarcon, wife of incumbent and outgoing Mayor Pedro Alarcon.
Information gathered by The News Today (TNT) disclosed that basis of the disqualification is the standing ruling under Batasang Pambansa (BP) 52 that lays down the grounds for Special Disqualification. Specific of the condition cited was the supposed earlier and ‘full’ retirement of Militar from public office as town mayor where she purportedly claimed and received corresponding government benefits due to a ‘retiring’ chief executive.
With Militar’s renewed bid to run for same post, Alarcon’s camp moved to seek immediate disqualification and if acted favorably will ensure the victory of the incumbent mayor’s wife.
As a matter of procedure, the Provincial Election Supervisor will accept and validate the disqualification complaint. A recommendation will then be submitted to the Law Department the Comelec Central Office in Manila where resolution of the case is also expected.
Alarcon is the candidate of the ruling Lakas-CMD party while Militar is with the local opposition Ugyon of re-electionist Governor Niel Tupas.
Disqualification is further eyed on the gubernatorial bid of perennial candidate Serapio Camarino Camposano who is trying to get the coveted seat in the Capitol as independent candidate.
Most likely, Comelec insiders told TNT, Camposano will be declared a “nuisance candidate” should he fail to prove his capability to lodge a campaign in the province’s 1,721 barangays.
