Incentives up for barangay chiefs if admin slate wins landslide
The local administration party is determined to rule in this May elections. Reports have it that promises were already made to the different barangay captains in the city for half a million project and incentives should the Lakas-CMD candidates win by landslide in every barangay.
A source who asked for anonymity said the joint tandem of Rep. Raul Gonzalez Jr. and Mayor Jerry Treñas wanted each barangay captain to deliver a solid vote for all the candidates of the Lakas-CMD or also called as Uswag group. In turn incentives will be given to them.
The same source, however, declined to disclose how much incentive each barangay captain will receive from the Gonzalez-Treñas tandem. The offer made by the group is also being pushed by Department of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez, Sr. “The DoJ secretary always fulfills his promise,” the source said.
The projects for each barangay is already in place under the Barangay Development Plan. However, the realization of each project will be hastened if a barangay official is with the administration party. Currently, there are 176 barangay captains in Iloilo City who are supportive of the Gonzalez-Treñas tandem.
It is believed that the strategy for a straight voting of candidates will automatically deliver votes to new aspirants in the administration group such as Edward Yee, Roberto Divinagracia and Lyndon Acap.
Meanwhile, observers believe that former vice mayor Victor Facultad will substitute his chief of staff Winstone T. Porras as candidate for vice mayor. Substitution is allowed by the Comelec in candidates with political party just like PDP-Laban.
