WHY EASTER EGG?
Hannah Jhanylle Po
The Easter Egg has its roots in pagan tradition. Before the egg became part of Christian Easter, it was honored during many rite-of-Spring festivals. The Romans, Gauls, Chinese, Egyptians and Persians cherished the egg as a symbol of the universe. It has represented mystery, magic, medicine, food and omen.
Amado Malhabour Jr.
In Pagan times the egg represented the rebirth of the earth after a long and hard winter. So, in modern times, the egg represented the birth of man. It was a symbol of the tomb from where Christ rose.
Thus, making the Easter Egg painting contest a tradition is another way for the younger generation to continue celebrating the hope that Christ's rebirth brings.
