Anti-crime czar appeals for sobriety in Oton ambush-slay try
Capitol's anti-drug and anti-crime czar appealed for calm and sobriety on the flurry generated by the attack on militant leaders in Oton, Iloilo recently.
While strongly condemning the incident, Board Member Angelo Briones, chairman of the Iloilo Provincial Board's Committee on Public Order and Safety, said it is important to let the police do their job and allow them to resolve the case.
Used by supporters of militant groups as yet another opportunity to hit the government, red flags and anti-Arroyo administration placards were once anew seen in city streets with fingers pointed at government agents as supposed perpetrators.
In an interview, Briones told The News Today (TNT) that more than ever the incident has highlighted the importance of vigilance in the community. It is also important, he added, that the support of locals is realized if only to achieve a faster and more efficient way of crime solution and case resolution.
"I do not have the latest on the case but I appeal to everybody, let us allow the police to do their work. We all want to have the suspects caught and justice for the victims," Briones continued. "This kind of violence has no place in our society."
Briones since his chairmanship of the Public Order and Safety Committee has taken a lead role in advocating peace and order in Iloilo's 1,721 barangays.
He is seeking election as regular board member of the Province in the Fifth District with effective barangay governance, public safety and fisherfolks' welfare as prime battle cry.
"We need to enhance our barangay governance education so we will have an effective way of running our community," he explained. "We need to strengthen our public safety drive for crime prevention and in my district, I chose a personal campaign to alleviate the plight of fisherfolks."
