Kite shuts down city's power
A kite which hit the high tension wire of Panay Electric Company (PECO) along Jalandoni Estate in Lapuz, La Paz district caused a total blackout in the city yesterday afternoon.
The power interruption occurred around 4:45 p.m. and was restored around 6:00 p.m.
Amanda Garcia of PECO called up local radio stations to explain the reason behind the sudden power outage.
The power interruption affected the billeting areas where the more than 3,000 delegates to the National Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Games are housed.
The city is currently hosting the PRISAA national games participated by contingents from the country's 15 regions.
Earlier, Mayor Jerry Treñas requested PECO and its power supplier, Panay Power Corporation (PPC), to ensure reliable power on the duration of the PRISAA national games for the benefit of the city's visitors.
It was learned that two other big conventions held here in the city opened yesterday.
Besides the problem on power, the city is also experiencing water shortage resulting from the drying up of Metro Iloilo Water District's (MIWD) water source.
Treñas has ordered the rationing of water to the various PRISAA billeting areas to ensure that the delegates' need for water is addressed.
