Obet's last hurrah
The day of reckoning is fast approaching. Vice Governor Roberto "Obet" Armada's time is likened to a ticking bomb about to explode into the grave of no return.
His obsession to grab the governorship illegally from someone who has the mandate of the people is a condemnable act and deserves not even a single accolade.
Obet is a desperate man. His irrational act was nothing but a front triggered by the personalities surrounding him since he was sworn in as bogus governor by virtue of a questionable authority.
He wanted to create noise at the expense of the legitimate governor, who else but Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr., only to find himself trapped as a result of his inherent greed for political power.
He was a young man in a hurry, desperately wanted to become governor not through an electoral process, but in a terroristic manner.
His fairy godfather a.k.a "king" Raul tried to serve it to him in a silver platter, unfortunately he made a big mess out of it. He failed to play the game fair and square when he had all the opportunities to do so. If only he knew and understood what diplomacy is three months earlier things could have been entirely different.
When will Obet ever stop?
Actually, I have sensed the inconsistency of his behavior the past few weeks which makes me think that he badly needs professional advice.
For how could he explain his asking the Office of the Governor to have his recent trip to Manila and his leave of absence officially approved when he does not recognize Tupas as the legitimate governor?
Quo vadis, Mr. Obet?
Apparently, his tiny world is beginning to crumble.
I can also cite another instance to validate his inconsistency.
When he was invited recently by Aksyon Radyo Iloilo to become their guest in their Candidate's Forum along with Governor Tupas, Obet outrightly rejected the invitation saying he' rather not face off with a non-entity. He did not consider the governor a candidate in his belief that the latter was meted disqualification by the Ombudsman.
Later, he accepted the invitation of Aksyon Radyo but he has set his own conditions. What an arrogance!
In another candidate's forum held Tuesday at the University San Agustin, Obet again made a show-off not minding that he has made the audience especially the women turn against him because of his position treating the weaker gender second class citizens at the height of the rebuttal stage.
It seems Obet is no longer in control of his social behavior. Has he forgotten that a big percentage of the provincial electorate is entirely composed of registered women voters? He should have been more prudent in his statement not to discriminate his late mother's "kabaro" had he wished them to get their sympathy.
I am afraid our titas, nanays, lolas, manangs, indays and nenes, would think twice in choosing the right person to govern them.
They need someone whom they could look up to like their own tatay, tito, manong, toto or nonoy in times of need.
Someone, whose track record is beyond reproach; untainted by corruption and other forms of thievery and will eventually alleviate them from poverty, keep their province remain peaceful and progressive.
Someone who has the political will to fight all forms of illegal activities; such as gambling, fishing, illegal drugs and cattle rustling.
Someone who just cannot be intimidated by any form of terroristic act; and most of all, someone who has faith in God, and someone who loves his county and his people more than himself.
