WV advances in nat'l PRISAA meet
Swimming
Region 6 is on top with 68-39-24 (gold-silver-bronze medals) but Davao Region tankers hauled two gold, one silver and 11 bronze medals Thursday at the close of their event at the Iloilo City Sports Complex pool here in the ongoing 2007 National Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) meet.
The gold performances were courtesy of Carlo Rodriguez (men's 200 meter freestyle) and Haroon Cali (men's 200 meter butterfly) while the lone silver came from Shahani Navarro in the women's 200 meter breast stroke.
The bronze medals, on the other hand, came from Navarro (women's 100 meter breast stroke and 800 meter freestyle), the team of Navarro, Belinda Pacatang, Ma. Carlota Alcantara and Fatima Alamara (women's 4x50 meter medley relay, Alamara (women's 400 meter freestyle) and the team of Navarro, Pacatang, Alamara and Debbie Kasim (women's 4x50 meter freestyle relay).
Table Tennis
On the other hand, Davao Region lawn tennis men's team showed poise as they grab five gold medals in the team and singles event held at the Iloilo City Sports Complex.
Davao Region team composed of Mark Alcoseba, Armando Palac, Jesse Sil and John Rex Limbo bested their rivals to win the gold in the men's team event while Region VII and Region VI settled for the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
As if that was not enough, Alcoseba added another gold in the men's singles event while Region VII's Jedree Tan settled for the silver. Region VI's Paquito Ataal and CARAGA's Heherson Buque, on the other hand, finished with the bronze medal, in that order.
High Jump
In the women's event, Region VII took the gold while Regions VI and III finished with silver and bronze medals.
In table tennis, the team of Angeli Gallano, Jacqueline Caragao, Joveryl Rodriguez and Debby Mascardo took the silver in the women's team event while Region VI and Region VII settled for the gold and bronze medals.
In athletics, Junel Boncit and Philip Ocon added two more gold medals to Davao Region's cause in the 5,000 meter and 800 meter run, respectively while Marlon Oracion took the silver in the 4x100 meter run.
Taekwondo
With their performance, Davao Region has a total of 27 gold, 22 silver and 36 bronze medals while host Region VI is still on top of the standings with 68 gold, 39 silver and 24 bronze medals.
Region VII, on the other hand, is closely third with 23 gold, 46 silver and 31 bronze medals.
