Capiz has best grains warehouse in Western Visayas
Roxas City -- Capiz grains warehouse was declared "best" in Western Visayas in 2006.
In the recently concluded search for best maintained warehouses in Region VI, the Bolo Grains Warehouse in Roxas City was declared regional champion for the 2006 Galing Bodega Award.
Information Officer Edna Artates of the National Food Authority (NFA) in Capiz said that aside from complying with the Ten Fundamental Standards for Stock Quality Maintenance and Good Warehouse Keeping, the introduction of innovative measures in said warehouse pushed it to best other entries in the region.
In 2004 and 2005, the same warehouse in Capiz was also adjudged as national winner in the search for the Best Maintained Warehouse of the food agency in the country.
As part of the regional award, the Bolo Grains Warehouse is now declared a Show Case Warehouse in Western Visayas and has become one of the entries in the National Galing Bodega Award, Artates said.
According to her, said warehouse, which is manned by Senior Grains Operation Officer Elizabeth Eribal, strictly complied with the standards required, namely proper hygiene and sanitation, stock quality maintenance and preservation, infestation control, among others.
The cost-saving innovative measures for the government which were introduced for a well-maintained warehouse in Capiz greatly contributed in making said grains warehouse here on top of the list of winners in the region.
Meanwhile, a 3,000-bag capacity modern municipal level grains center was recently turned over by NFA to the people of Tapaz, Capiz.
NFA Regional Director Javier Lozada turned over said government project to Tapaz town mayor Romualdo Exmundo, Jr. and San Nicolas Barangay Captain Jesus Gardose.
The government has already established two municipal level grains centers in Capiz, Artates said, adding that these are located in Pontevedra and in Tapaz towns.
She said that these projects are the collecting centers of farm produce of small farmers in the province who intend to sell their products to the food agency.
The centers also serve as venue for farmers' training activities, she said.
