Western Visayas 20th farmers' information center launched in Antique
San Jose, Antique -- The Municipality of Tobias Fornier recently launched the Farmer's Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center to provide farmers and fisherfolks with access to updated information and technology services to increase income and agricultural productivity.
Mayor Ma. Orchid Fornier expressed her gratitude to partner agencies who have been supporting the establishment of Techno Pinoy FITS Center that will not only benefit farmers or fisherfolks but also all the people in the town in terms of increase food production that will eventually lead to lower cost of food products grown and harvested locally.
The recently launched FITS Center was the 5th in Antique, 20th in Region 6 and the 225th center in the country. It will cater to the information needs of farmers, fisherfolks, students, researchers and other clients by providing information materials on agri-fishery technology and other related topics, said Edna Lavega, Information Officer of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.
The highlight of the launching was the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement of institutions supporting the functionalization of FITS Center. These are Western Visayas Agriculture Resources Research Development Consortium (WESVARDEC) represented by Prof. Marilou Lopez, Polytechnic State College of Antique (PSCA) by Dr. Victor E. Navarra, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) by Nicolasito Calawag, and Mayor Ma. Orchid Fornier.
Establishment of FITS Center is in line with government's effort of advancing agricultural production programs, broadening and speeding up the food distribution system and balancing out price disparities and fluctuations.
Meanwhile, Press Secretary Ignacio R. Bunye reiterated the government's determination to grow the economy and uplift the lives of the people and enhance the delivery of vital social services.
The President has remained focused on growing the economy by further attracting more investments to create more new jobs and raise the needed funds to enhance the delivery of health, education, housing, food, infrastructure and other social services to the people.
