9 Capiz studes pass 2007 S&T scholarship exam
Roxas City -- Nine Capiceño incoming freshmen college students have passed the government's Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) grant examination.
According to Senior Science and Technology Officer Gerbe Dellava of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Capiz, three of said students are from Roxas City, two each from Dao and Tapaz, and the remaining two are from Ivisan and Jamindan towns.
These students who have passed the 2007 STS under Republic Act 7687 include Alyanna Marie Alejaga, Catherine Basa, Charity Hope Casabuena, Eden Fancubila, Jovielyn Gallardo, Irene Paja, Paul Romar Salanatin, Michelle Venas and Mary Gay Elizabeth Venus.
Dellava said that DOST-Science Education Institute awards scholarships in baccalaureate degree programs to those to wish to pursue priority fields of study in the sciences, mathematics and engineering.
He pointed out that the government will provide tuition and other school fees, textbooks and school supplies allowance, uniform allowance, monthly allowance, group health and accident insurance, and additional privileges during summer.
For their scholars who are studying outside of their home province, the government also provides free transportation for one economy-class round trip fare between permanent residence and place of study, he said.
On the other hand, four incoming high school students in Capiz also passed the DOST's 2007 Philippine Science High School System Search for Scholars.
These students, who all graduated from the Capiz Commercial School, are Andrea Isabel Contreras, Kevin Ip, Juan Miguel Manzanillo and Philipp Jude Panelo.
Dellava said that said students have passed the scholastic aptitude and science-mathematics aptitude tests.
He added that among the privileges of these government high school scholars are the free tuition fees, free loan of books and monthly living allowance for 10 months per year.
