DOH-CHD reiterates thrusts during 4th anniversary

The thrusts and services of the Department of Health Center for Health Development in Western Visayas were highlighted during its 4th anniversary celebration last April 26 and 27.
With the theme, "Molding DOH CHD WV towards global competitiveness (showcasing Western Visayas culture and tradition), the celebration featured the festivals in the region through a Battle of Festivals , parlors games as well as FBS and cholesterol testing activity.
An awarding of the department's outstanding employees was held. The awards include Best DOH Rep Cluster Office, Best CHD WV Cluster, Leadership Award, Best Employee, Outstanding Employee and special awards and recognition of partners.
Dr. Lydia Depra Ramos, regional director, presented the different thrusts of the department.
First, the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP) and Quality Health Care Services wherein the PhilHealth and the LGU shall provide their respective counterpart contribution for premium subsidy to the indigency program, improvement of the health care services in hospitals and the provision of advocacy, capacity building and technical assistance by the department.
Second, the provision and promotion of low priced and quality essential medicine plus anti-counterfeit program. Third, child health through the Bright Child Program. Fourth, women's and maternal health by promoting safe motherhood, family planning and the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Fourth, focus on the prevention of communicable diseases through the TB program, Rabies Control program and other diseases lie dengue, leprosy, malaria and emerging diseases such as SARS and avian influenza. Sixth, is the promotion of healthy lifestyle and environment health. They are focusing on risk factors, voluntary blood donation, diabetes, cancer and other degenerative diseases. Lastly, advocacy and prevention of substance abuse and management of drug abuse through screening and rehabilitation.
The anniversary coincided with the celebration of World Health Day, which is being observed every April.
"In a globalized world, health issues increasingly present new challenges that go beyond any single national border and have impact on the collective security of all the people in the world. The increased collaboration among developed and developing countries enables the international community to look for solutions to be better prepared to deal with key cross-border public health issues and help make the world more secure," Ramos stated.
