Comelec orders police to keep eye on vehicles without plates
Atty. Elizabeth Doronila of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office has directed the police to keep an eye on vehicles without plate numbers usually found in the campaign sorties of politicians in the different towns in the province of Iloilo.
Doronila disclosed of several complaints reaching her office regarding the presence of vehicles without plate numbers purportedly carrying armed men.
She, however, refused to identify the towns where the complaints came.
Doronila said, she has already brought to the attention of Iloilo Provincial Office (IPPO) acting provincial director Senior Supt. Melvin Mongcal the said information.
Doronila surmised the armed men could be the private bodyguards of the politicians concerned.
As this developed, Doronila is on the process of checking the number of police personnel in the province who are allowed to serve as escorts and how many of the candidates availed of gun ban exemptions from the Comelec.
Doronila added she will also coordinate with the Land Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to conduct the monitoring of vehicles without plate numbers.
Earlier, Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 director Chief Supt. Wilfredo Dulay ordered all provincial police offices to run after vehicles with no plate numbers. The order came after two journalists were shot by unidentified suspects that were riding in a vehicle with no plate number.
Doronila also said that they have received complaints regarding overspeeding vehicles of politicians.
