Participants to the Pilgrimage for Peace :Panay-Negros-Guimaras will hold a Peace Prayer Rally on May 5, 2007, 5:00 -- 7:00 pm at the New Provincial Capitol Ground. This will be preceded by a motorcade around the city to start at 3:00 pm from the Provincial Capitol. This will be open to public, as well as candidates and partylist groups.
The activity is the highlight of the successful Pilgrimage for Peace covering Panay-Guimaras-Negros Islands on April 23 --May 2, 2007 led by Central Philippine University, Convention Baptist Ministers Association and Iloilo Coalition of NGOs and POs.
Launched on April 23 at Central Philippine University, the group toured the Panay and Nergos islands until May 2, 2007. A short stop in every town was made for distribution of voter's education materials and prayer for peace. Major stopovers were conducted at Capiz Evangelical Church, Roxas City and Lifeline Center, Kalibo, Aklan, Canlaon Evangelical Church, Canlaon City and Fortress College in Kabankalan City. where worship for peace and voters education were conducted.
As the name implies, the Pilgrimage centers on the word PEACE. For the organizers this means PRAYERS for peaceful election; EDUCATION towards responsible exercise of the right to suffrage; ADVOCACY for clean and honest election; establish/strengthen COOPERATION among individuals, groups, organizations and institutions that seek and advocate for peace; and ENDEAVOR towards the development of the culture of peace and understanding.
Participants to the Pilgrimage do not only advocate for peace but endorse candidates and partylist group that are truly men and women of PEACE. This means "Principled; Empowered and empowering; Advocate of human rights and fundamental freedoms; Committed to the cause of what Jesus Christ referred to as "the least of our brother and sisters"; and Environmentalist."
The organizers, through this paper, are inviting candidates of various political parties and partylist groups to join the motorcade around the city and the prayer rally. They can bring with them respective banners and streamers. Interested parties may contact the organizers at 09198757724.
