Antique guv to Comelec: 'Disqualify Plameras'
And the legal battle in the Province of Antique begins.
Reelectionist Governor Salvacion "Sally" Zaldivar-Perez has now turned "petitioner" before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) after a week of being "respondent" to a disqualification case here.
This, as disqualification was officially sought against the lady governor's opponent in the gubernatorial race in Antique.
Zaldivar-Perez wants the Comelec to disqualify comebacking governor Jovito Plameras Jr. citing a violation in Batas Pambansa 52 on the special disqualifications covering retired elective officials.
Aided by topnotch Ilonggo lawyer Guillermo Alcantara, the Petition for Disqualification will be heard this week alongside the continued hearing as well on the earlier complaint faced by the Perez group.
Plameras should be disqualified, the Petition went, because of his full retirement from the Office of the Governor backed by retirement benefits where some P339,000 were duly paid by the government.
BP 52 prohibits retired elective officials whether provincial, city or municipal who received payment of retirement benefits to run in same elective office or position.
