Traffic aides bewail deduction in their salaries
Traffic aides in the city are complaining about the so-called "withholding tax" which is being deducted from their monthly take home pay.
They were not informed nor consulted of the said deduction which was imposed on them recently.
A group of traffic aides sought the help of The News Today regarding their plight. The traffic aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity, complained that lately they were surprised that their salary was deducted of P444 per month.
Traffic aides receive P5,500 a month, the P500 increase was implemented only last January of this year.
One traffic aide said, with the P444 monthly deduction, the P500 increase turned useless.
Another one said, P444 is already a big amount that they could use in providing for the needs of their family.
They said they were not briefed as to the reason for the P444 deduction before it was implemented. They want clarification about the withholding tax but fear they might lose their jobs once they come out.
Further, the traffic aides questioned the policy imposed by Roque Tancinco, head of the traffic aides, regarding the "one absent-two days suspension." A traffic aide who incurs an absence is being meted with a two days suspension without pay.
"The policy is very unfair," one traffic aide said.
Mayor Jerry Treñas and Tancinco were not available when reached for comment.
