Korea to Kalibo flight kicks off May 11
Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI regional director Edwin Trompeta announces the inaugural flight of Asian Spirit for Itchon, Korea to Kalibo Aklan on Friday, May 11, 2007.
This breakthrough international service between Korea and Kalibo signals the entry of Region VI into the international direct/charter flights of tourist to our destination especially Boracay Island, said Trompeta in a press release sent to The News Today.
Two other new airports of international standards in Region VI are slated to be opened this year. The Iloilo airport is scheduled to open in May, while the Bacolod airport will be operational later part of the year.
These two airports are expected to open new opportunities to direct/charter flights from anywhere in the world to allow tourists to get to the destination in Iloilo, Negros and Guimaras at a much short time.
The Kalibo International flight will be on a three times weekly basis using a McDonnel-Douglas MD82 aircraft. Travel time to Kalibo from Korea is approximately 3.5 hrs reducing travel time to Boracay by more than five hours.
