PGMA no show in Iloilo TU rally
President Macapagal-Arroyo failed to attend a final campaign rally of the Team Unity (TU) senatorial candidates here last night upon the advice of her doctors.
Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez, one of the key organizers of the rally, said in a telephone interview that the President suffered from heat stroke and loose bowel movement and was advised by doctors to rest.
Presidential Adviser for Western Visayas Rafael Coscolluela said yesterday that the President was resting in Malacañang.
The President also failed to attend the TU rally in Cebu City Wednesday night after she got ill while she was in Bohol early Wednesday where she inaugurated a port project.
The Iloilo rally set at 7 p.m. last night at the Freedom Grandstand was expected to be a show of force of the administration after the failed Genuine Opposition (GO) rally in March.
The GO rally was called off by organizers allegedly because of death threats but the President's allies had dismissed it as an excuse for the poor crowd turnout which only reached around 200.
