Dance concert for kids with cancer slated May 25, 26
The Sol Fernandez School of Dance
The Sol Fernandez School of Dance, one of the leading ballet and jazz schools in Iloilo, will stage a dance concert for children diagnosed with cancer on May 25 and 26. The shows will be held at the CAP Auditorium with matinee and gala shows at 3 pm and 7 pm respectively.
More than being a benefit concert, preparation for the event turns out to be a life-learning experience for its participants. The dancers, whose ages range from mid-elementary to late teens, have learned to view the gift of dance in more meaningful ways.
Anna Mae V. Militante:
"I'm happy to be part of this concert because this is a way on how I can thank God for all the blessings that He has given me, most especially the gift of dance. Dancing for the children with cancer makes me feel like I am able to ease their pains and make them feel that someone cares and values them. This concert will give them hope to live."
Herson Reden:
The Sol Fernandez School of Dance students
"Cancer is rampant in our society today. It's because of stress, habitual way of living and also genetic diseases. The program is for our brothers and sisters who are cancer victims."
Arlyn Mae Natividad:
"Waking up every morning remembering the fact that there are several obstacles between us and our dreams challenges us to do more and hope for the best like the children we are helping now.
We should memorize our steps, do our best and smile while performing so that the audience especially the children will enjoy and be inspired that one day, when they get well, they will also fulfil their dreams. If we would make this concert memorable for them, maybe some of them would be inspired to be also a graceful dancer someday. Being the performer is fun; enjoying while dancing and at the same time helping these children and giving them hope."
Rexielle Delight G. Antiporda:
"I support cancer victims. When our dance instructor informed us about the concert for the benefit of cancer victims I was happy to help people in need."
Punky Wong Sembrano:
"Each of us has our own uniqueness, individuality and talent. These are God's gift to us not only to make us shine as an individual but to attain a purpose in this world.
In my case, I was blessed to be given dancing feet. I am a Mass Communications student of St. Paul University and a scholar of Sol Fernandez School of Dance. I firmly believe that we should share the talent we have because this was not given to us by God for our own selves but also for other people. I started dancing at the age of 3 and it has always been my dream of helping other people through my talent. As soon as I heard that our dancing school will team up together with the House of Dance from Manila for a fundraising concert that will help children who are cancer victims, I never had a doubt on joining in the said concert for I know that I will be able to give these children a chance to live a better life and experience the beauty of life. It is an honor to be part of the CROSS OVER concert because I know my mother who has been very supportive of my dancing and my grandmother who passed away because of cancer will be very proud of me.
We should bear in mind that the talents that God has given us are not for a lifetime that is why as long as we still have these talents we should make use of it in a very special way. Let us live our lives to the fullest by helping those who are in need, so that we could say that we deserve to be given these talents because we know how to use it not only for our selves but also for our brothers and sisters."
