Estancia new mayor proclaimed but…
Mosqueda
Estancia's hotly-contested mayoralty fight ended, or so it seems, with the proclamation yesterday afternoon of former police general, Restituto Mosqueda.
Yet quick on their objection, the camp of incumbent Mayor Rene Cordero filed a Motion to Set Aside said proclamation pending resolution of the disqualification case lodged against Mosqueda.
In what stands to be one of the more controversial election races in the province of Iloilo, the Mosqueda-Cordero bout has placed the town as candidate then for areas deemed "Areas of Concern" by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Even up to the counting of the election returns, Estancia got back on the limelight with an encounter between Mosqueda's wife and a supporter of Cordero.
As a result of that exchange, two were arrested by the Estancia police with one identified as the armed bodyguard of Mosqueda's wife and other, armed supporter of Cordero as well.
Mosqueda in an interview with Aksyon Radyo yesterday thanked his supporters and the overwhelming lead he garnered during Monday's polls.
This, as the former police general extended his hand of unity and reconciliation saying he is out to serve Estancia and bring change here.
Meanwhile, reports late yesterday came out that "people power" is in the offing in Ajuy, Iloilo as 80% of election returns in said town was already counted.
Ajuy Mayor Jett Rojas reportedly alerted Philippine National Police and Philippine Army personnel as people started to gather in front of the municipal hall.
As of press time, it was not clear whose camp is planning to stage the so-called "people power."
Fighting off for the mayoralty post in said town are Juan Rojas Alvarez (Lakas CMD) and Ramon Rojas Espinosa (Liberal).
