City's major infra projects lined up
Now that the election is over, reelected Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is buckling down to work with several major projects in line for the city.
First in the list is the construction of a new City Hall worth P320 million. Other projects include bridges and roads.
Treñas, who will be serving his last three years, said he hopes to complete the construction of the new City Hall during his term.
The city government is already making final arrangements for the bidding of the City Hall project. The design for the new City Hall building was made by the Coscolluela and Associates the same architectural firm that constructed the New Iloilo Provincial Capitol.
With the contract price of P320 million, the Bids and Awards Committee has to publish the invitation to bid not only in the local papers but also in the national papers. Foreign contractors are also encourage to join in the bidding of the multi-million construction of the new city hall building.
City government offices are readying for transfer to Robinsons Place which will temporarily house the offices while the construction of the new City Hall is being undertaken.
The construction of a new road from Luna Street, La Paz to Diversion and Airport Road are also among the five major projects that Treñas wanted to implement soon. The road project is worth P200 million. It will provide commuters alternative route from La Paz district directly to Mandurriao, the future site for another development in the city.
Treñas also said he is looking forward for the construction of the first phase of circumferential road project estimated to cost P1.2 billion. The source of fund for the construction is from the Department of Public Works and Highways. The circumferential road will connect Iloilo City to the town of Sta. Barbara. The proposed construction of the circumferential road is the government's preparation for the economic activities at the new Iloilo Airport in Sta. Barbara-Cabatuan.
The chief executive is also looking forward to the construction of another P400 million flyover in addition to the one that is being constructed along Diversion Road and Gen. Luna Street in City Proper. The project is expected to be completed in July.
The construction of the Ticud Bridge and the road widening in La Paz is also one of the concerns of the reelected mayor. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recently approved the release of the initial P30 million for the project. The project is estimated to cost P90.6 million, said Treñas.
