Capitol exec up for Thailand for climate workshop
Dr. Ildefonso Toledo, Officer-in-Charge of the Provincial Agriculture's Office is bound to Pathumthani, Thailand for a three-day internal workshop on module development for Climate Field School (CFS) from May 29-31, 2007.
In a communication addressed to Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr. by Mr. A.R. Subbiah, Director of Climate Risk Management, Toledo is invited to participate in the finalization of the CFS which will be piloted in Dumangas, Iloilo in June 2007.
The CFS, one of the key activities under the Climate Forecast Application (CFA) aims to build the capacity of extension workers and farmers to use weather and climate information in decision-making in order to reduce flood and drought risks in agriculture.
The CFS is now in the process of being established in Dumangas, Iloilo guided by terms and provisions of the Memoranda of Agreement signed between ADPD, Iloilo Provincial Government and Dumangas Municipal Government on August 15, 2006.
The module development is being led by Toledo with inputs from Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The said workshop will also be attended by ADPC, PAGASA and Provincial Agriculture's Office.
The CFA, a regional program for Disaster Mitigation in Indonesia and Philippines, is being implemented through the ADPC in partnership with PAGASA, Iloilo Provincial Government, Dumangas Municipal Government with the support from the US Agency fir International Development's Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA).
