DepEd ready for opening of classes
Department of Education (DepEd) Asst. Regional Director Dr. Elnora Barrios said the agency is prepared for the opening of classes and asked all stakeholders to cooperate.
Dr. Barrios said DepEd is happy about the conduct of the Brigada Eskwela, wherein the teachers, parents and the community pooled their resources in preparing the schools by clean up activities, doing repair and beautification activities so that the schools will be clean and pleasant for the children.
"We are addressing the usual complaints that schools are dirty and that the children are made to do the cleaning on the first few days of school, such that holding of actual classes are delayed," Dr. Barrios said.
She also assured the public that Western Visayas has no acute problem in classroom deficiency as the Department of Public Highways and the DepEd have worked together to meet the need.
Dr. Barrios also issued the reminder for all teachers that no fees should be collected from all pupils enrolling in the public elementary and high schools as this is not allowed by DepEd.
Likewise, she reminded the teachers to start getting their books so that their classes will not be hampered by the delay in distribution, as experienced in previous school years.
"I'm also calling on all Superintendents to start filling up vacant positions in their areas, brought about by promotions and retirements, as there is no banning on the hiring of teachers," Dr. Barrios said.
She added that part of the readiness of the DepEd for the opening of classes is the upgrading of non-majors teachers handling different subjects, who are given relevant education to make them more competent and skilled in the areas they are made to teach, to augment the lack of teachers in major courses like Math, Physics and others.
