A fresh mandate
Governor Niel D. Tupas, Sr., was finally proclaimed last Monday, exactly two weeks after the May 14 elections, by Provincial Comelec Supervisor Atty. Elizabeth Doronila, assisted by Chief Provincial Prosecutor Bernabe Dusaban, at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall.
It was a fresh mandate from the people with Tupas garnering more than 200,000 margin against his opponent vice-governor Roberto "Obet" Armada.
Even at the moment of his unprecedented political victory (a first in the history of the province), Niel never minced a word against his political enemies nor his critics. With all modesty, he was magnanimous through and through.
Now on his way to his third and final term as governor of the province of Iloilo, I have a feeling Niel would venture to another level setting aside the idea of retiring from public service.
Politics is his way of life. It runs in his veins and breathes it as well. It is an elixir that gives him youthful strength next to his most beloved wife Nonoy Myrna.
Three more extended years to serve his constituents is a blessing which Niel should thank to Someone up there.
Unknown to us, the recent Capitol siege took place for a reason. Niel was only used as an instrument. He was the central character of the event. The rest were all bit players composed of the villains and the protagonists, acted out by the military attackers and his supporters, respectively.
Ultimately, the director and producer was Someone up there, and he called the shots.
Last Monday's event was the final stage after a series of connecting episodes.
An extended part of the story can be possibly compounded depending on the circumstances of the forthcoming event.

I came across an article days ago, narrating the rift between Iloilo City councilors Jeffry Ganzon and Inday Perla Zulueta, wherein the former surprisingly provoked the latter on certain issues which I found very trivial.
Outright I felt amused by Ganzon's accusations. I thought from the start Ganzon was barking at the wrong tree and made a blatant blunder for picking a fight with the honorable lady.
Perla is known as Iron Lady for nothing; other than being a real public servant in the true sense of the word.
True enough, Ganzon got his own doze of medicine. He was even unaware what hit him on the head.
Moral lesson: know thy enemy sir!

City councilor-elect Lex Tupas can hardly wait to serve his constituents in the city right after he was proclaimed recently.
He has all the time in the world to do so.
Prove to them that you are your father's son and no longer a baby.
The youngest among his colleagues and being a newcomer in the field, I hope Lex should heed my unsolicited advice: listen, participate and deliver.
