Cloud-seeding ops raises water level at Maasin Dam
Happy days are here again for Ilonggo farmers. Thanks to 240 sacks of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) or salt actually, used by the Department of Agriculture on its cloud-seeding operations for some three weeks now.
In a report gathered by The News Today (TNT), Agriculture Regional Executive Director Larry Nacionales disclosed 'salt-induced' rainfall in at least twelve Iloilo towns. Albeit sporadic to light, said rainfall made feasible the planting of crops such as corn and sugarcane.
In Alimodian, Iloilo alone, some 650 hectares were planted with corn while about five hectares saw the planting of vegetables like pepper, baguio beans, cauliflower, raddish and carrots.
For a while heavy rains was observed in Barotac Nuevo that made planting conditions good for over 185 hectares of corn and over 3,236 hectares of palay.
In Dueñas, sporadic rain shower was recorded to have benefited almost 1,000 hectares of sugarcane with the rains recorded in Passi City, Barotac Nuevo and part of Maasin, Cabatuan, Pototan, Mina, New Lucena, Januiay and Badiangan.
Water level is also up in the Maasin Dam from 93.61 meters on May 3 to 95.15 meters or an increase of 1.54 meters.
