Bulabog Puti-an National Park hosts GLOBE field day
The Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) participants visited Bulabog Putian National Park in Dingle, Iloilo recently. The Park was chosen for field study during the GLOBE Asia Pacific Train the Trainee Workshop hosted by the Philippine Science High School.
GLOBE, is an interactive school-based science education program funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Science Foundation, the US State Department and implemented through the Colorado State University.
The five-day workshop was conducted by 25 international trainees aimed to familiarize high school teachers to the protocols in carrying out scientific measurements of the atmosphere, hydrology, soil and land cover. Seventy five participants from Fiji, India, Maldives, Marshall Island, Nepal New Zealand, Palau, South Korea, Australia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, USA and the Philippines attended the training. They were joined by public and private high school teachers based in Panay.
DENR Region VI officials headed by RTD Arlene T. Dalawis, PENRO Valentin P. Talabero and Bulabog Putian Park Superintendent Apolinario A. Corbal gave the briefing and orientation about the park's features, status, and project proposals.
On a positive note, participating schools and GLOBE members agreed to adopt an area at the park where it could establish facilities and structures to promote the eco-tourism potential of the park.
RED Lormelyn E. Claudio welcomes this development. She also encourages the public to visit the park located in the municipalities of Dingle and San Enrique. Bulabog Putian showcase a location of caves with beautiful formations of stalactites and stalagmites and a home to many wildlife in the province of Iloilo.
