ICPO police force augmented
Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 ordered the deployment of around 100 policemen to the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) to prevent criminals from taking advantage of the opening of classes today.
Chief Supt. Wilfredo Dulay, PRO 6 regional director, said the augmentation force would come from the 3rd Regional Mobile Group (RMG).
Dulay said "the deployment of the additional warm bodies is in anticipation of any crime that could happen like pick-pocketing and cellular phone snatching among students."
He stressed the students should be careful in spite of intensified police patrols in their school premises and public places.
"It is only in this City of Iloilo where there’s augmentation of police force, being the seat of education in Western Visayas and because of the request of the ICPO Director Wesley Barayuga," Dulay said.
"This is also part of the PRO 6 Comprehensive Plan drawn up for the Oplan Balik Eskwela," he noted.
Earlier, Barayuga, Iloilo City police director, requested for additional policemen from the PRO 6 to beef up checkpoints.
The ICPO put up checkpoints in the entry and exit points in Jaro, La Paz, Mandurriao and Arevalo districts.
The augmentation team also will assist in managing well the city's traffic congestion.
