All set for 109th Philippine Independence Day celebration
Everything is ready for a simple but meaningful celebration here of the 109th anniversary of Philippine Independence on Tuesday (June 12).
The city government will conduct a flag raising and wreath-laying ceremony at 7:00 in the morning at Plaza Libertad here simultaneous with the celebration of Philippine Independence Day spearheaded by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at the Luneta Park in Manila.
The flag raising and wreath-laying here will be spearheaded by City mayor Jerry P. Treñas, Vice Mayor Guillermo de la Llana and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional director Teresita Manzala, who is also slated to give the keynote address.
The Oath of Allegiance to the Philippine flag will be delivered by City Secretary Diosdada Carado.
The celebration is seen as an important milestone for de la Llana as this will be his last Independence Day program hosted by the city government. The vice mayor is retiring from public service after serving the city government for more than three terms.
The celebration will also be the last of the present city council whose new members will be inaugurated on June 14 at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand.
Also slated to give their floral offerings are the DepEd supervisor and principal of Montes II Elementary school in the city proper area.
