Search for presidential awards for child-friendly town and city on
San Jose, Antique -- This year's search for Child Friendly municipality and town is on pursuant to Executive Order 184 series of 1999 entitled "Establishing Presidential Awards for the Child Friendly Municipalities and Cities".
The awards is being conferred in recognition of the vital role of the local government units in promoting children's rights and child friendly governance. This is to further institutionalize a child friendly environment and governance in promoting and protecting children's rights to survival, development, protection and participation.
All cities and municipalities are encouraged to join the search. The search will be in 4 categories such as 1st to 3rd class municipalities, 4th to 6th class municipalities, component and independent chartered cities and highly urbanized cities.
An inter-agency evaluation team shall be organized and be called the National Awards Committee compose of the following departments and agencies, Social Welfare and Development, Education, Interior and Local Government, Health, Philippine Information Agency, National Economic and Development Authority, National Nutrition Council and Council for the Welfare for Children.
Interested municipalities shall submit to the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC) the accomplished entry form and required reports. The Local Government Units should have the following child friendly initiatives; Local Development and Investment Plan for Children, Local Ordinances that promote and protect children's rights and updated data or data bank on children.
In Antique, entry forms are available at the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office as secretariat of the PCPC. Deadline of submission of entries at the Provincial level will be on July 31, 2007. Awarding of winners at the national level will be towards the end of the year.
