DOST-6 receives praises from performance review team
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VI got all praises from the performance review team that conducted performance review of three regional offices under the Visayas cluster for calendar year 2006 in Cebu recently.
DOST 6 Regional Director Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga and the entire department made a good record after they have presented the region's programs and accomplishments to the six-man performance review team led by Prof. Edison D. Cruz, executive director, Technology Management Center of the University of the Philippines, Diliman.
The other members of the performance review team are Dr. Eduardo Ong, vice president of Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Engr. Raul Sabularse, deputy director of the Philippine Council for Industry & Energy Research & Development in Metro Manila, Dr. Florentino Tesoro, former Undersecretary of Department of Science and Technology, Dr. Carlos Tomboc, director of Philippine Textile Research Institute and Atty. Mario Bravo, assistant secretary for administrative & legal affairs of the Department of Science and Technology in Metro Manila.
The performance review team grilled Gelonga and some of his department heads for more than four hours. However, the DOST 6 team made their point and convinced the performance review team of what they have done and also their plans this year.
Regions 7 and 8 also made their presentations.
Other than Gelonga, Dr. Emelyn Flores, officer-in-charge of the office of the assistant regional director for technical operations; Remy Sunio of the Office of the assistance regional director for finance and administrative services and Eng. Naomi Cossette Luis, DOST provincial director also joined in the grilling session.
Part of Gelonga's report touched on the department's SET-UP project or the Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program. The program has several components. In the same accomplishment report, the DOST provided 144 technology interventions, assisted 100 existing firms, established three new firms, provided 3,158 employment and generated P140 million income. They have also rendered consultancy services to 78 companies.
In the same performance evaluation, Gelonga stressed that they have made collaborations with the DOST, TESDA, Department of Agriculture and National Meat Inspection Service in any undertaking which could only duplicate their functions.
