3rd ID spearheads WV readiness for June 29 tree planting
Roxas City -- A coordination meeting was conducted at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) office in Capiz to finalize preparations of concerned government agencies for the upcoming simultaneous nationwide tree planting activity on June 29.
"A countdown over a radio station of national coverage will be conducted ten seconds before the hour-long tree planting activity that will kick-off at nine o'clock," said 3rd Infantry Division's (3rd ID) Captain Renante Besa during a presentation.
The responsibilities of the participating agencies were also cleared out for the smooth implementation of the 90-minute tree planting activity which seeks to qualify the Philippines in the Guiness Book of World Records for the most number of seedlings planted within one and a half hour.
"We have available seedlings at the nurseries," emphasized Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Dionisio Molina, Jr.
Initially, the DENR -- Capiz has set aside about 20,000 of hardwood species and fruit bearing trees that will be planted at the 3rd Infantry Division (ID) military reservation in Jamindan town as well as other military camps, schools, seminary, and along various roads.
Last year, the province also participated in the nationwide launching of Green Philippines Program which documented about 3,269 seedlings planted along the Roll-On Roll-Off routes.
The forest lands or timberland areas of the province comprise 91,229.53 hectares or 34.65% of the province's 263,317 hectares total land area based on DENR -- Capiz records.
