Capiz LGUs put up one-stop desks
Roxas City -- Most local government units (LGU) in Capiz are adopting a system to improve the delivery of basic services and cut bureaucratic red tape.
Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Jenny Destua said that as part of the campaign to stop red tape and for frontline service providers to deliver fast, efficient and convenient services, LGUs have established their respective one-stop desks.
Destua pointed out that said one-stop desks are made available especially during payment of taxes and other fees for business permits and other tax liabilities due to the government.
Recently, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed into law Republic Act 9485, otherwise known as the Anti-Red Tape Act of 2007, which seeks to cut bureaucratic red tape, clean up transactions in and with government, and impose stiff penalties on violators.
The new law requires government offices to adopt simplified measures to expedite transactions in all government agencies, including local government units and government owned and controlled corporations, adopt fixed deadlines for the completion of transactions and to regularly assess and upgrade their frontline services, Malacañang said.
Accordingly, said law is in support to sustain the country's economic growth, particularly in aggressively pursuing fiscal reforms, improved revenue collection efficiency, new direction and greater efficiency in government corporate agencies.
The Anti-Red Tape Act of 2007 is also a measure that would put the government in a position that would cater to people's needs in terms of employment, livelihood and social services by putting the country's economic growth to at least 7 percent till 2010, Malacañang said.
