Thirty-four couples who have long been living under one roof without church blessing will finally get wed this coming Thursday, June 28, in a mass wedding to be held at the Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje Church in La Paz district.
The mass wedding is a project of reelected Councilor Julienne Baronda. It is already on its 3rd year. The wedding rites will be officiated by Fr. Rolando Haguisan and Fr. Nene Sinoy.
The couples will receive free wedding cakes and wedding rings from Baronda.
After the wedding, the reception will follow at the La Paz covered gym. Food will also be provided by Baronda.
The mass wedding is also a joint project of the Iloilo City Hall Press Corps. Media personalities from different media outlets who are covering the city hall beat will be part of the wedding entourage. They will serve as veil and cord sponsors.
The mass wedding should have been made last month but was postponed after the participating couple failed to submit the prerequisite documents. The postponement was also attributed to the church decision not to use the mass wedding to gain political mileage.
