RCWDP 6 spearheads Disability Week opening
The Regional Committee for the Welfare of Disabled Persons (RCWDP) in Western Visayas will spearhead the opening ceremony of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week celebration in the region on July 17, 2007 at SM City Mandurriao.
This is the 29th year of the week-long celebration that bears the theme: "Kapag May Access, May Success!"
DSWD 6 OIC Chief of Technical Assistance Division and Focal Person for PWDs Rebecca P. Geamala said the aim of the celebration is to highlight efforts geared towards disability prevention and rehabilitation leading to the integration of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) into the mainstream of society as mandated under Republic Act No. 7277, otherwise known as the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons.
The opening ceremony will be followed by the opening of the photo exhibit featuring the programs and services related to PWDs of the different concerned agencies. This will also be held at SM City and will run until July 23.
On July 18, members of the Accessibility Committee of the RCWDP are set to conduct Access Monitoring in some identified establishments and offices in the city and province of Iloilo including the New Iloilo Airport of international standard in Cabatuan. The team will also visit the province of Guimaras on July 20.
During the week, various fora are scheduled starting with the Employers Forum to be conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the afternoon of July 17, Student PWDs Fora at the Central Philippine University on July 18 and at the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology on July 20, and the Access Forum at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol in the morning of July 19.
Other activities include the Orientation on Healthy Lifestyle for PWDs by the Department of Health on July 19 and Thanksgiving Mass on July 22 by the Iloilo City Federation of PWDs at SM City.
This year's NDPR Week celebration will be capped by Larong Pinoy and Cultural Day participated in by PWDs coming from the different provinces of the region including the cities of Iloilo and Bacolod on July 23. Some of the contests that will be featured during the Cultural Day are the Choral contest, Binalaybay, Composo and Folk dances.
