Plagata gets committee on transportation
Councilor Erwin Plagata will replace Councilor Jose Espinosa III as the chair of the committee on transportation, energy and public utilities in the Sangguniang Panlungsod. His designation as chair of the said committee is a welcome development on the part of the different drivers associations who earlier endorsed him for the post.
In the list of committee chairmanships released by the office of Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog, Plagata was named the chair of said committee while terminal operator and neophyte Councilor Lyndon Acap is the vice chair and Councilor Perla Zulueta as member.
Earlier, 11 jeepney drivers associations and one tricycle drivers association in the city have endorsed Plagata to become the new chairman of the committee on transportation, communication and public utilities of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
The associations include those plying the SM City route, Lapaz, Ungka Diversion, Arevalo, CPU, Ungka UI, Mandurriao via Molo, Jaro Liko Tagbak, Parola and Calumpang.
Vulcan Espinosa who heads a tricycle association in the city also made the same endorsement. Copies of the resolution were furnished to Mayor Jerry Treñas, Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog and Sangguniang Panlungsod.
The committee on transportation, energy and public utilities then led by Espinosa is being blamed by drivers for the failure on the implementation of the Perimeter Boundary Ordinance (PBO). The ordinance favored the routes belonging to the then Metro Iloilo Development Council (MIDC) to enter even the city's main streets.
