Playing EVIL
Competition is healthy in this world. It is human nature for an individual to compete with his fellows. It exists at home, fighting over who's mom's favorite son or who's dad's pet, just like in the case of the tragic story of Cain and Abel. In school, competition is very tight in terms of determining who will be in the top ten. At the workplace, this is often associated with promotions and recognitions. Competition doesn't have any limitation and is present everywhere.
A competitor breaks sets of laws. He has his own rules in achieving his goals but this time he gets what he wants in evil ways. He would do anything just to pull others down. His interests include being on top of everyone. He never commits mistakes and if he does, he seldom accepts it. I just think, it is just an outlet of his many insecurities like having no achievements way back in high school days and college life that is why he is too eager to achieve something to the extent of using evil acts. Heart- no more for an evil competitor; he is blinded by the beauty of competition. He is so unkind, thus hurting someone's feelings. He never cares, he thinks on how to improve himself and how to win in the battle "masagasaan na ang masagasaan."
Here are some of the characteristics of an evil competitor:
-
Ambitious. When Caesar was said to be ambitious, Romans flocked in one place to question his power. And because he was ambitious, Brutus who was hungry for power slew him together with those who thought Caesar was a threat. To have ambition is a part of life, but do not be one of the Brutuses I have known.
-
Dirty game. We live life like we play games. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. But if we play unlawfully and beyond the rules, we expect to win through evil ways. Karma is one of the effective amulets to fight dirty games. We'll wait for the day to come when karma starts to work.
-
Pretentious. Trying to be... ostentatious. Sometimes we become plastic. We pretend that everything's okay though it is not. The worst scenario is to backbite people making the situation more evil.
-
Desperate. He will do anything and everything, though evil, as long as he can attain his ambition of being on top. Sometimes he would risk his character and integrity just to win the competition.
-
Envious. He has this so-called "inggit" that is why he dwells in competition. He is not satisfied with everything that he does. Discontented, he grabs others' opportunities and turn them into his own. If this happens continuously, well, I would recommend that he needs to see a psychiatrist.
-
Actor. The capacity of acting is a great tool to hide all his evil interests in the organization. He acts as if nothing happened. He pretends to be holy though he is the most evil character in the story. Well as they say, "life is like a stage play, and we have our own characters to portray." There are always antagonists who can do evil things just to see you miserable. They don't have the heart to sympathize, if worse gets worst, but the heart to laugh in your dejected times.
-
Gutsy. Of course the nerve of doing a bad thing. He can stomach all that he is doing. I just do hope he can sleep peacefully. If he can't, well, conscience works in silence.
So, knowing some evil characteristics of a frantic competitor, you can always be aware. A competitor surrounds us; he or she maybe your friend, your relative, or even your most loved best friend. Trust is sometimes negotiable. But, put in mind; do not play evil in return. Don't get even. Never vie in an unjust competition. Instead pray for these people. Matthew 5:44 states' "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you." The judgment isn't yours... leave it in the hands of God.
