Who's afraid of Zulueta?

The two controversial committees handled by feisty councilor Perla Zulueta remain vacant as of press time despite the earlier squabbles involving said committees.
The committee on ways and means and committee on public services, environmental protection and ecology have not yet been filled up with its chairs and members.
It was Councilor Jeffrey Ganzon who first wanted to get the committee on ways and means. Both, Zulueta and Ganzon figured in a verbal tussle even before they served their new mandates. The same committee was also being eyed by comebacking Councilor Antonio Pesina.
The committee on public services, environmental protection and ecology was eyed by neophyte Councilor Eldrid Antiquiera. The two also had a verbal argument over the radio when Antiquiera made advance inquiries on Zulueta's office regarding the works and functions of the same committee.
A reliable source at the Iloilo City Hall said it was Mayor Jerry Treñas who requested the members of the majority group to retain Zulueta's chairmanship in the two committees. Earlier, Majority Floor leader Eduardo Peñaredondo hinted that Zulueta will remain as the chair of the committee on ways and means.
In an earlier interview, Zulueta said she will not accept any committee membership if the committee on ways and means and committee on public services, environmental protection and ecology will be remove from her.
In the same list, Zulueta is also given memberships to committee on police, fire, penology, public safety, order and security, dangerous drugs and rehabilitation; committee on transportation; committee on barangay affairs community development and committee on appropriation.
Meanwhile, opposition Councilor Nielex Tupas was also given chairmanship in two committees. He has named as chair of the committee on labor, employment, manpower development and placement and committee on domestic and international relations.
Another committee which the new set of city council has created and remained vacant is the committee on communication and public information.
