110 RMG men augment city, prov'l police force
As robbery cases rise in Iloilo City and Iloilo Province, Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 Director Chief Supt. Wilfredo V. Dulay Sr. issued a memorandum for an intensified police visibility, checkpoint operations, with emphasis on the implementation of "No Plate, No Travel Policy", and enhancement of Barangay Intelligence Network to deter criminality.
Dulay has also directed Senior Supt. Wesley Barayuga, Iloilo City Director, to coordinate with the Barangay Captains for active involvement of tanods in anti-criminality campaign. This is in preparation for the training of tanods on patrolling, intelligence gathering and other aspects that would facilitate the effective and efficient performance of their duties.
Also, Dulay is exploring for legal remedies as bases for equipping with firearms the selected tanods of Iloilo City. This pet project will kick off as soon as the tanods are trained on marksmanship and gun safety handling.
Meantime, Dulay ordered for the deployment of 55 Regional Mobile Group (RMG) personnel each for the ICPO and Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) to augment in their various anti-criminality campaigns.
"The role of tanods is essential to peace and order," Dulay said adding that the region is still wanting of more police personnel. To recall, last election "we sought the support of the Philippine Army in the conduct of visibility patrol because we lack personnel," he added.
Based on records of Investigation Division of PRO 6, robbery incidents occurred most in Iloilo City but Senior Supt. Wesley Barayuga, Iloilo City Director also displayed remarkable accomplishment by filing 11 cases in court of the 16 robbery incidents. Other cases are still being prepared for filing.
Meanwhile, the ongoing recruitment at Camp Delgado will eventually strengthen our police with 200 new personnel.
Of more or less 700 applicants, 381 are now undergoing medical check-ups to further determine their fitness to police training and ultimately to police work.
Dulay said Western Visayas has been allotted 200 PO1s this recruitment. He is also hopeful for another recruitment this year after this batch takes oath sometime this August.
