Peñaredondo to be removed as majority floor leader?
Peñaredondo
For voting in favor of Councilor Perla Zulueta in last Wednesday's selection of committee chairmanships, Majority Floor Leader Eduardo Peñaredondo might lose his position as majority floor leader of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Information is spreading like fire at the city council that councilors closely identified with the camp of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez, Sr. are planning to unseat Peñaredondo.
Penaredondo was not available for comment over the reports.
Aside from Peñaredondo, Councilors Jose Espinosa III, Erwin Plagata, Stevie Rey Abitang, Marietta Orleans and Nielex Tupas also voted for Zulueta's retention as chair of the committee on ways and means.
The votation for the majority floor leader was made first before the votation for the different committee chairmanships.
In a radio interview, Antiquiera, who was reported to lead the plot to unseat Peñaredondo, refused to confirm it. He also did not say any word when asked if Peñaredondo is fit for the position of majority floor leader.
Antiquiera, a supporter and former staff of the Sec. Gonzalez only said there is a long way to go.
Meanwhile, the report on the plot to unseat Peñaredondo was denied by Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog. He said there is no plan whatsoever to oust Peñaredondo from his position.
Mabilog for his part said that Peñaredondo deserves the majority floor leader position in the city council.
