DSWD turns-over P3 M Kalahi-CIDSS projects
Some P3 million worth of basic support projects under the Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program were recently turned-over by the Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 (DSWD 6) to the five barangays of the municipality of Janiuay, Iloilo.
KALAHI-CIDSS is the flagship project of the Arroyo administration to alleviate poverty being implemented by the DSWD that aims amongst others to empower communities in depressed areas in the country in terms of identifying, analyzing and prioritizing the projects that would best solve their immediate needs.
Alma Joronadal, Social Marketing Officer of DSWD 6 said the basic support projects that were turned-over to Janiuay included the P1.1-million footbridge in Brgy. Carigangan; P581,648 health station in Brgy. Sto. Tomas; P896,832 two-classroom school building in Brgy. Mangil; P857,760 road upgrading in Brgy. Caraudan; P228,054 covered line canal in Brgy. D.G. Abordo.
Joronadal said of the total project costs, the P2,845,502 came from KALAHI-CIDSS as a grant and the remaining P822,852.45 was the counterpart contribution of the community and the barangay, municipal and provincial governments. On the other hand, Brgy Cariangan availed of some P960,000 from the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of Cong. Arthur Defensor for the completion of their footbridge.
Janiuay is one of the 11 municipalities covered by KALAHI-CIDSS in the province of Iloilo. The other municipalities are Concepcion, Ajuy, Btac. Viejo, Calinog, Carles, Lambuno, Lemery, Maasin, San Dionisio and San Rafael.
Joronadal said aside from the 11 municipalities in Iloilo the project is also being implemented in two other provinces of the region, in Capiz and Negros Occidental. For Capiz, the municipalities covered are Jamindan, Maayon, Dumarao and Tapaz while in Negros Occidental in the towns of Cauayan, Moises Padilla, Don Salvador Benedicto and Hinobaan.
