Training bats for organic farming in Negros Occidental
Bacolod City -- Organic agriculture was once again extensively discussed and promoted here with the recently concluded training in Organic Agriculture last July 18 to 20 at the Capitol Governor's Hall.
Some 70 participants coming from the different towns and cities of the province attended the activity including personnel from PhilRice, Office of the Agriculturist (OPA) and the Provincial Veterinary Office.
Among the speakers are Executive Director of Broad Initiatives for Negros Development (BIND) Eva de la Merced, Executive Director of Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Developmenty Foundation, Inc. (NISARD) Patrick Belasario and Pamela Henares, also of NISARD.
OPA Training Coordinator Dina Genzola said participants to this training are key persons in their area who will relay the knowledge they learned and promote organic agriculture.
A strong proponent of organic farming, Negros Occ. Gov. Joseph Marañon called for the widest support for this natural method of farming and made it as one his administration's priority program.
The province has recently embarked on a plan to make Negros island the organic capital of Asia in partnership with the Negros Oriental government.
