Two more dengue deaths noted in Iloilo City
Dengue cases in Iloilo City continue to rise in number with two additional deaths, a report from the City Health Office (CHO) revealed.
The latest fatalities were three and a-half-year-old Christine Cañonuevo of Barangay Kaingin and seven-year-old Maria Angeline Fe Gemitillo of Barangay Ticud, all in Lapaz district.
Data provided by Dr. Mae Delmo to the office of Mayor Jerry P. Treñas showed that there were 85 dengue cases in 27 of the city's 180 barangays from January to the last week of July.
The CHO data showed that 30 dengue cases occurred from January to April while 55 were reported from May to the last week of July.
Most of the dengue victims from May to July were children. There were 32 patients whose ages range from 5-14.
Most cases were from Jaro district with eight; Lapaz, City Proper and Molo district, five each; and Arevalo and Mandurriao, two each.
Alarmed over the city's dengue situation, Mayor Treñas called for a more intensified campaign to ensure that the four o'clock habit and cleanliness drive are continually practiced in the barangays.
The city government has also intensified its information campaign by handing out leaflets on dengue in all day care and barangay centers here.
