Police nabs LTO impostor
City police now have in custody an impostor who duped applicants of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) here by claiming he was a regional processor of licenses and permits.
Bearing several identification cards, charges are being readied against one Benjie Lim alias Benjie Fajanilla. If other IDs in his possession are to be considered, cops may very well charge Bryan Garcia alias Bryan Fajanilla. Verification is also being made on yet another ID supposedly issued by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) with provincial address in Batad, Iloilo. The suspect also has one ID signed by Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim.
LTO Regional Director Gerard Camiña in radio interviews disclosed an earlier planned entrapment operation however police made the arrest ahead of the LTO team. This, as cops were tipped off by a civilian informant on the suspect's whereabouts.
Camiña congratulated the quick response of city cops as he called on the public against dealing with "sinister" minds posing as LTO agents.
"Do not transact outside our office. If there are problems with your papers, let us know so we can help you within the bounds of law," Director Camiña said. "Indi magpadala dala sa pasalig nga short cut and give only what appears on the receipt, no more no less."
The News Today (TNT) in a report gathered that charges will be pursued separately by the LTO.
"We are out to expose and stop this. We do not tolerate this kind of shenanigans. Not under my administration," Camiña declared.
Incidentally, LTO regional office 6 has been adjudged as one of the best performing LTO offices in the country.
"We do not like people with evil and sinister minds to abuse the lack of information of the public," he ended.
The suspect made arrangements for his victims to meet him in a secluded city hotel, one practice that Diretor Camiña stressed is not really "so bright" if heeded.
