Capiz town to establish coconut nursery
Roxas City -- A coconut nursery will be established in Jamindan, Capiz to provide seedling needs on the municipal government's coconut replanting program.
The project will be formally sealed between the Philippine Coconut Authority and the municipal government of Jamindan in a signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on August 24.
"The nursery will specifically grow katigan and tacunan coconut dwarf varieties," said PCA -- Capiz Coconut Development Officer Andy Laurilla.
Jamindan town has an estimated 800 hectares of coconut area both tenanted and owner operated managed by more than 1,500 coconut farmers based on Capiz Physical, Socio-Economic and Development (PSED) Profile 2005.
The MOA signing is among the highlights of the culmination program at Coco Oil Mill site at Barangay Ondoy in Ivisan town in line with the observance of 21 st Philippine Coconut Week celebration set from August 20 to 24.
PCA Regional Manager Jose S. Cruz and Jamindan municipal mayor Ethel Jinon are expected to lead the agreement signing.
Other Capiz town mayors Ma. Rita Lyn B. Patricio of Pilar, Jose O. Alba, Jr. of Mambusao, and Felipe Neri N. Yap of Ivisan are also expected to enter into a MOA on a separate project during the culmination program.
The program will also be graced by Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr., Roxas City Mayor Vicente Bermejo, PCA -- Capiz Provincial Manager Jeffrey delos Reyes, Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Executive Director Larry Nacionales, Capiz Small Coconut Farmers Cooperative (CASCOFAMCO) Chairman Jose Obligacion, and heads of concerned national government agencies, among others.
